Deadline Oct. 2JOCO ROBOS: Johnston Community College is hosting Johnston County's first ever NC FIRST Robotics Team. We are currently recruiting currently enrolled high school students to join our team and compete at NC FIRST events in March and April 2016.

Deadline Oct. 7: Breakthrough challenge.  This opportunity is offered through Khan Academy. 

Deadline Oct. 31: The NC International Science Challenge (NCISC) is a yearly North Carolina science competition for high school students. The selected students travel to Beijing, China to present their science research projects at the Beijing Youth Science Creation Competition the third week of March. The competition requires students to undertake a research project, write an abstract explaining their research problem and present their research to a panel of scientists and engineers. The students selected spend a week in Beijing presenting their research, meeting students from other countries, and experiencing various cultural and scientific events. The NCISC is offered jointly by the North Carolina Science, Mathematics and Technology Education Center (SMT Center) and the Morehead Planetarium and Science Center.

Deadline Nov. 20: NCDOT bridge building competition.  This competition seems to be similar to the science olympiad competition

UNC CHAPEL HILL Chancellor's Science Scholars Program.  This is a program for students interested in science.  It is meant for students interested in applying to Carolina.  If you apply to Carolina, you are automatically considered for this program but you can add to it.  You are encouraged to use the additional information section in the common app to explain your commitment to fostering diversity in math and science disciplines.  If you have already submitted an application, you are encouraged  to explain your commitment to science by emailing UNC to uncsubmit@admissions.unc.edu with the subject line “CSS Interest” and including your full name and date of birth.
